Airports and traveling related information
An airport can be defined as the location where aircrafts including airplanes and helicopters are allowed to take off and land. All of these aircrafts may also have the provision to be stored at the airport or maintained there also. The airport basically consists of at least one surface for the take off's and landings of these aircrafts and these include runways, helipads, water landing or take off provisions also. Along with this airports have provisions for buildings such as hangars and terminal buildings. Some of the bigger airports usually have fixed operator service provisions along with seaplane docks and ramps, air traffic control building and passenger facilities like restaurants and lounges. Airports also need to have emergency services for the safety of the passengers and catering to their needs. The airports can be categorized on various bases and one of the major classifications is the military airports and the commercial airports. The military airports are called airbase or air station and terms like airfield, airstrip, and aerodrome have also been used to refer to airports.
Airports which are dedicated to the exclusive services of certain kinds of aircrafts are also called heliports and seaplane bases as they cater to only helicopters and seaplanes respectively. There are some jurisdictions where the airport is licensed by the relevant government organization. The commercial airports are usually classified on the basis of domestic and international airports. There are some cities which have a single airport while there are some major cities that have more than one airport to cater to the high demand of air traffic. Some of the busiest airports in the world include London Heathrow Airport, London, United Kingdom and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Traveling by air has become the most common mode for travel as it saves time and helps to cover longer distances. The airports today are being built to cater to passenger amenities and unlike the earlier concept of airports as basic waiting areas, airports today are treated as recreational areas with some facilities like shopping, spa's, restaurants, etc. One of the best airports in this reference is the Changi Airport in Singapore. The Hong Kong International Airport had been named winner of World's Best Airport title, 2007, for the 7th time in ten years. Ratings for the airports are based on number of travelers, amenities provided, number of aircrafts and airlines plying from the airport and most of all, passenger rating and their opinions make these airports more popular.
