Exploring different avenues of tourism The definition of tourism is an activity, which includes travel for recreational or leisure purposes. The people who travel to and stay in places outside their customary surroundings for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes are defined as tourists. These tourists are not related to the exercise of an action remunerated from within the place visited and this activity is known as tourism, which has become a popular global leisure activity. Tourism has grown in the past few years with global traveling becoming easier and also more reasonable. But in spite of the uncertainties in the global economy there has been growth in international tourist arrivals in the first quarter of this year. 2008 has been a year of various economic crises and the world is suffering from problems of recession and economic slump. But the later half of the year did experience a light fall in the international travel demand. There are various countries which are dependant greatly on tourism for economic and these include U.A.E, Egypt, Greece, Singapore, Thailand and many island nations such as Bahamas, Fiji, Maldives, Seychelles. Tourism can be of varied experiences and there are different areas that one can explore and also varied reasons for doing the same. Tourism can be related due to leisure purposes but there are various business trips that are organized in the name of tourism to provide their associates with a break from work and also benefit them to conduct financial deals without the regular stress of work. Tourism service industries cater to other services like cruise, taxis, ships, trains, etc. Hence apart from being a vital part of providing leisure and relaxation to the users it also provides a source of income to various industries and locations. Tourism can be for the purpose of education in fields of history, geography, etc. Hence even thought the basic purpose of tourism is related to relaxation and funs there are various other kinds of activities associated with tourism also. Tourism continues to grow and though it has suffered a slight setback due there are hopes for it to revive soon. The growth of tourism is expected to touch space also by the end of the 21st century. The use of e-commerce in the tourism industry has facilitated easy access to information and booking of vacations and trips along with exploring the other avenues of tourism also.
